Braddock (Bradoc)

The church of St. Mary is an ancient building of stone and granite in the Perpendicular style consisting of double aisles with chancel, transept and a western tower of two stages with pinnacles containing 5 bells, all recast in 1845 by Mears, from a previous peal of 4, with additional metal; the base of the rood screen remains, but the upper part is now in Boconnoc church; some of the bench ends bear the arms of the Ringwood family and the date 1634: the pulpit is cingue-cento: in the windows are the arms of Pitt, Fortescue and Ryder: the font of Pentewan stone, is Early English: the organ, designed by Sir John Stainer Mus.D. Oxon, was presented by the late Lieut. Col. C.D. Fortescue in 1887,; the chancel was re-seated in the same year, the church having been restored some time previously: there are sittings for 150 persons. In the churchyard is an original lynch gate. The register for baptisms dates from the year 1571; burials 1555 and marriages 1619.
