Cardinham or Cardynham (Celtic. Caer-dinas, the rocky fortress). The church of St. Mewbred. is an ancient building of stone in the Perpendicular style, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, south porch and an embattled western tower with pinnacles containing 5 bells: the chancel retains its sedillia: on the floor at the east end of the north aisle, removed here from the chancel in 1872, is a curious brass of a priest in a cassock, and girt with a sword: below is an inscription to Thomas Awmarie, appointed rector here 22nd September, 1356, and praying for mutual supplication, " Rogo vos fratres pro me et ego pro vobis is quantum possum" there is also attached two shields of arms and in the church is a monument to Nicholas Glynn, ob. 1699: the east window is a memorial to the Rev. Thomas Grylls a former rector, and there is a memorial window in the chancel to his wife: the church affords 300 sittings: in the churchyard stands an ancient cross.
