Duloe

The church of St Cuby, standing on an elevation, is a large and ancient edifice of stone, in the Early English style, consisting of chancel with north aisle, nave, north aisle, transepts, south porch and a tower on the south side with pyramidal roof and containing 6 bells, dated respectively 1861, 1753, 1869, 1755 and 1753: the rood stairs remain in the north wall of the chancel aisle: the pulpit is of carved oak, and the font, an octangular work of bold design, is of granite: in 1882 the marble reredos and a new organ was erected: in the chancel is an altar tomb to Sir John Coleshill kt. dated 1483, with recumbent effigy in plate armour abd collar of SS.; another monument, defaced in 1820, commemorates Sir John Arundell kt. of Trerice, M.P. for Tregony, temp, Charles I. and governor of Pendennis Castle, which he held for the king for six months during the year 1646, being then 87 years of age: he died in 1647: there are also memorials to the families of Miles , Rewes, Grigg, Trevlliion and others: the stained east window was erected by Mrs Peel, in memory of her husband, Thomas Peel esq. of Trenant Park, in this parish, and in 1888 a memorial window to H Bewes esq. was placed in the Bewes aisle: the church was completely restored in 1863, and has 380 sittings. The register dates from the year 1663.
