John, St
The church of St. John the Evangelist is an ancient building of stone, consisting of chancel, nave, south porch and a western tower with two stages, erected in the 15th century, with a pyramidal slated roof, and containing 8 bells; the monuments are of modern date; the east window is a memorial to the Rev. James Campbell, late rector who died in 1863, and was presented by his widow; there is another in the nave, given by Margaret, widow of John Hext Boger esq; the church was restored in 1868, under the direction of Mr White, architect, of London, and has 100 sittings. The register dates from the year 1616.
