Torpoint
The parish was formed January 17th, 1873.
The church of St. James, in the middle of the town, was erected in 1819, and is a plain building of stone, consisting of chancel and nave and a western turret, containing a clock and one bell; the chancel, added in 1885, is in the Early English style; the pulpit is of cedar, beautifully carved by Mrs. Kerwan, of St. Johns; there is a monument in the church to Joshua Rowe esq. (d. 1827), as well as others of this family, including his son Sir Joshua Rowe, C.B. Chief Justice of Jamaica; there are 700 sittings. The register dates from the year 1819.
