The church of St. Werburgh is an ancient building of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave of four bays, north aisle, south porch, and a western tower containing 4 bells, all cast in 1712 and re-hung in 1881 at a cost of £370; there is a tomb in the churchyard to William Symons gent, ob. 1673, and in the church a few modern tablets; the rood stairs, in the north wall, now form the entrance to the pulpit; there are 100 sittings. The register of baptisms dates from the year 1686 but is deficient; marriages, 1695; burials, 1695.
